Pasadena, CA — The US Chamber of Commerce has come out in support of the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal, or N-deal, and has urged the US Congress to approve it before the close of its 110th session. The Chamber says that the resultant deal may support more than 250,000 IT jobs, and InformationTechnologyCrossing (www.informationtechnologycrossing.com), an IT job board dedicated to serving IT professionals, agrees that the deal will surely quell IT job woes to a great extent. According to some media reports, the US Chamber of Commerce views the N-deal as a tremendous opportunity for US companies to compete with one another. The deal is slated to support an expected 30,000 to 60,000 Mw of new nuclear generating capacity by 2030, representing a potential $150 billion of new investment, said R. Bruce Josten, the Chamber of Commerce's vice-president. He also emphasized that congressional approval of the deal was essential to allow US companies to compete with nuclear firms from other countries that have already signed deals with India.

Meanwhile, the latest quarterly report by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics has found that the number of jobs in the information technology industry has been increasing despite the economic slowdown. According to the bureau, the number of employed IT professionals increased in the second quarter by 10% as compared to the 2007 second-quarter figures. For example, Barracuda Networks, a leader in web security applications, plans to expand its research and development center in Ann Arbor, MI. The project is expected to create 351 new IT jobs, including 185 workers who will be directly employed by the company. Add to this the growing job count on InformationTechnologyCrossing, and you definitely get a rosy picture of the IT industry.
