Google introduces translating software
Google recently launched its translation software, allowing net surfers to search the Internet in any language and have the outcome translated in their preferred language. A test version of the software is available at http://translate.google.com/translate_s.
The "cross-language information retrieval" feature of the novel software "in effect, will make the Web universal," says Udi Manber, Google's vice president of engineering. The merchandise, along with the staff of 38, are spread over the offices of 12-year-old BroadWare in Santa Clara and McLean, VA, and will be incorporated into Cisco's market technologies group.
Renesas Technology launches new tool for car navigation systems
Renesas Technology America, Inc., launches a unique SuperH device that enhances the performance and capabilities of car navigation systems. This hardware/software solution can also be utilized in other in-vehicle car information system products also.
Running at speeds up to 600MHz, the system-on-chip (SoC) is a SH7775 32-bit processor. It can achieve performance as high as One GIPS (giga instructions per second) and up to 4.2 GFLOPS (giga floating-point operations per second).
Besides maximizing map drawing and 3-D images, the single-chip solution also comprises a recently created graphics engine and a GPS baseband processing function. With the new device, Renesas intends to improve not only the features and performance, but also highlight the vital concerns of system design and debugging.
