The Need for Self-testing and Assessment in IT

Self-testing is a way of self assessment in that when one opts to take a self test, he or she wants to know where they stand on an issue or a subject and it is wise to, especially in the ever dynamic career of information technology. Having taken a course or a class to prepare for the certification exam, it is advisable to take a self-test to determine what you understood from the class or course and your level of preparedness for the certification exam.

IT jobs require people to be up to date with the latest trends and innovations in the market and hence one ought to familiarize him or herself with these and part of this involves self-testing.

Sometimes when one reads what they learnt in class, it sounds easy and people tend to be complacent and assume that they will pass the exam as a result. Having samples of very recent and relevant test questions is a good way to prepare since it will provide an assessment of your strengths and weaknesses which you have ample time to work on instead of realizing the same while taking the real exam.

When changing or switching careers, self-assessment is always necessary because the person wants to understand all aspects of the career he or she is getting into. Self-testing allows both the new and not so new people in IT jobs, network jobs and even software jobs to know their stand as regards to their career both at the individual level and the intellectual level.

For people who have ‘exam phobia', it is also beneficial since it helps to relieve some of the tension especially when you do well in the self-test and assessment. Even when one has not done to their best, they have comfort in the fact that it is not the real exam and they have time to improve. Having worked on the areas of weaknesses, one is able to enter the exam room confident, which is one of the ingredients of success.

Assessment also covers getting prepared for the job itself that is after passing the certification exam and helps one to know where they are coming from, where they stand, and where they want to go. When someone else assesses you, they might not understand you as you understand yourself. Self-assessment removes biases and helps one to take a wholesome view of him or herself and this is critical if one is to change and adapt to his career.

When looking for IT jobs, which include software jobs and network jobs, the self-assessment continues when one is writing a cover letter and a resume. One should understand that an effective resume should be brief, clear, and punchy. It should have the reasons as to why one thinks that he or she is the best person for the job and include the position being applied for, how one learnt of the job and the qualifications that one possesses. Proof read to remove errors.

The resume should, on the other hand, be attractively designed to attract attention. It should have a smooth flow and start with the relevant information such as the relevant qualifications that suits one for the job instead of all the qualifications given at random. Giving the achievements accomplished instead of responsibilities held is also a great way of writing the resume. It should include all the other details from contacts to hobbies and must be proof read to remove errors and correct grammar.

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
