Job Function and Key Duties & Responsibilities Overview:
The Manager of Database Administration manages and coordinates a team of Database Administrators who contribute to the goals of the organization by defining and measuring the processes and systems architecture. She or he manages the changes and additions to the database platform that best meets those goals. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining a reporting architecture and works closely with other departments to ensure proper presentation and interpretation of data. The Manager of Database Administration is also responsible for performance, availability and reliability of all database assets to ensure subscribed system and business SLA**s
Leadership Requirements:
Identify opportunities for improving processes and systems and make recommendations for improvement. Participate with other IT team members in the design and modification of processes and systems.
Ensure service excellence of database administration support for the application development team throughout the lifecycle of assigned projects.
Create, evaluate and implement the plan for database performance, availability and reliability. This includes making recommendations for hardware and software for hosting and monitoring the databases.
Manage the Database Administration / DBA team members including team member evaluation and hiring of team members.
Provide leadership and direction for day-to-day monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of all databases.
Work in a team-oriented environment and as the leader of an operational environment support team while ensuring 24X7 -365 coverage of databases and client SLA delivery agreements. .
10 years of data-warehousing experience with proven understanding of data-warehousing architecture, methodologies, implementation processes and best practices
Experience with large databases with high transaction volume in a fast-paced, high-availability, production environment.
Broad knowledge of the processes and systems that make up an organization and have experience in creating, evaluating and modifying such systems.
Required Qualifications Technical Requirements:
Have at least 15 years IT experience and 10 years** experience as a manager. Have at least 10 years** experience with DB2 , Microsoft SQL Server and or Oracle. IDMS a plus
Have experience with the entire suite of SQL Server platforms, including the Database Engine, Reporting Services, Integration Services and Analysis Services.
Helpful but not mandatory is experience with other DBMS Engines such as Sybase ASE. MYSQL
Demonstrable ability to write stored procedures, user-defined functions, and triggers
Knowledge of DB2 and DB2 Subsystem architectures
Experience with Backup & Recovery, Security, Performance monitoring and tuning
Education and Training:
Bachelor**s degree or equivalent experience.
