At least five years administering a large-scale MySQL database installations for a Content Management System or web application or in a web hosting environment administering numerous MySQL database installations.
Position Summary
The MySQL DBA participates in the implementation, administration, monitoring, and optimization of hundreds of MySQL database installations for both large and small Content Management Systems and web applications in a web hosting environment. Working closely with product development teams and our business partners, the MySQL DBA provides support and expertise ensuring that MySQL databases perform optimally under all types of web traffic.
Technologies
Platforms: Linux, CentOS, VMware, Cloud Computing, Amazon EC2 experience a plus
Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL or NoSQL experience a plus
MySQL Features: InnoDB and MyISAM storage engines, Replication, Clustering experience a plus
Scripting: BASH, Perl, Python a plus
Responsibilities
Review and deploy DML/DDL database scripts to support application releases
Configure and maintain MySQL replication topologies for high-availability and database read scale-out
Work with developers and product development teams to tune database queries and make recommendations on database optimizations
Maintain database backups and be able to recover databases to a point-in-time when necessary
Maintain database monitoring tools and monitor performance under varying workloads
Lead database tier troubleshooting efforts and manage escalations and resolution of issues
Provide after hours support on an on-call rotation for critical production database issues
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and experience
Five years experience in web-based software and application development or at a web hosting service provider
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
