Open Source Java Software Architect
San Francisco, CA
Would you like to work under the hood, solving technically challenging problems, on popular open-source projects with millions of downloads? Our team contributes to Mule, Apache Tomcat, Debian Linux, Apache CXF, Eclipse and other popular projects. We are actively engaged in innovating around web middleware technologies for the enterprise and cloud.
If this sounds like you, we would like to meet you:
* Have a passion for developing great software and consider yourself a polyglot programmer
* Believe in lightweight, open source technology over heavy, bloated vendor stacks and see the cloud as an opportunity to rewrite the rules
* Know how to write robust and reliable systems with attention to performance, quality, and security aspects
* Can design APIs, tools, and features that add value without complexity and deliver an awesome developer user experience
* Enjoy experimenting with new technology, coming up with innovative ideas, and building great product solutions
* Want to build a successful and profitable company
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of this role is to contribute to and advocate the use of web middleware technologies supported by the company. As a core developer, you'll be working with numerous open-source technologies and messaging/web service protocols (REST, SOAP, JMS, XMPP, etc). Your challenge will be to innovate within and around the product and make it valuable and useful for as many developers as possible and, as a result, increasing downloads and growing the community.
You will be an active participant in our technical user community. This will require you to use your strong communication skills and passion for helping and educating users. This might include blog posts on technical subjects, documentation or tutorials written, forum participation, code contributions to an open-source project, presentations of videos given at a technical conference, or anything else that helps to grow our open source community and lead users to download and use our products.
Requirements:
* Record of doing more than expected of you
* Track record of career success, a clear impact player.
* Top academic credentials (or some other demonstration of your intellectual horsepower).
The company's products are primarily developed in Java; however, we do not screen our candidates based on technology buzzwords. Whatever technologies, languages, or development environments you've been using, we expect you have mastered them in depth, and we expect that you will be able to master any technology, language, or development environment that we need in the future.
That said, if we didn't put the buzzwords in, you might never find this job and we would never meet, so here they are:
* Incredible coding skills and expertise in multiple programming languages such as Java, C , Python, Groovy, Ruby, Erlang
* Experience with open source infrastructure software (e.g. Mule, Tomcat, Spring, Camel, JBoss, Glassfish, Axis2/CXF/Metro, ServiceMix)
* Programming ability way above average with demonstrable knowledge of modern enterprise architecture and standards (e.g. SOA, JMS, SOAP Web Services, XML, REST, JSON, XA Transactions, TCP/IP, HTTP, PKI)
