HBS is creating a team who will assess and implement educational delivery methods for on-line learning to enhance our ability to disseminate the work of the faculty to business practitioners around the world.
The Senior Project Manager (SPM) coordinates business change through a set of related and coordinated projects. Initial focus will be on project managing the creation of a virtual classroom. This will include integration of efforts in design, construction and software development with the teaching goals of the faculty.
Under general guidance, the SPM directs variety of projects, some requiring considerable resources and high levels of functional integration. The SPM demonstrates mastery of project management processes and emerging program management skills in an Agile environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Leads multiple projects in an Agile environment, including high priority, complex software development and integration projects.
Clearly scopes and projects; actively identifies and manages project risk.
Estimates projects using multiple techniques to arrive at realistic schedules. Clearly highlights methods used and assumptions made when communicating estimates.
Delivers project results predictably, on time and on budget. Provides regular project progress measures and status reporting.
Builds Use Cases for more complex/higher impact situations – demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the concepts and processes related to requirements, functional design and scope management.
Charters projects clearly to deliver on highest priority features and architecture
Responsible for managing contractor and vendor relationships.
Please note: the initially is a 3-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science or related area
6 year project management experience with an advanced degree, or 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree
2 – 3 years experience using agile software development methods
Proficiency in project planning, estimating, and scheduling, can quickly bring teams from project charters to realistic software release plans.
Experienced in implementing program status, performance reporting and project dashboards.
Excellent communication skills - can take charge of the conference room and effectively lead project in all forms of communication - project steering meetings, project chartering and kickoffs, stand ups, design sessions, brain storms, problem solving sessions and retrospectives.
Demonstrates the following interpersonal attributes: Adaptable, flexible; uses grace & tact under pressure; unflappable when confronting challenges; resilient; positive outlook and can-do attitude; respectful & approachable style.
Additional Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Business, Computer Science or related area strongly preferred.
PMP or Scrummaster designation highly desired.
2 – 3 years experience introducing new project/program management methods and processes, and experience mentoring others.
Experience in vendor and 3rd party management.
Experience providing project services in a higher education or professional services setting.
Experience with audio video engineering or broadcast technologies a plus.
