Pasadena, CA — Big-shot IT companies are increasingly adding and laying off information technology professionals, as they continually struggle to face the recession. Subsequently, the Democrats have prepared an economic stimulus bill that could total $775 billion over two years. The $30 billion investment in information technology is expected to create or save nearly 1 million US jobs, according to the economic stimulus proposal. InformationTechnologyCrossing (www.informationtechnologycrossing.com), the premier IT job board dedicated to serving IT professionals, agrees that the stimulus will surely quell IT job woes to a great extent.
''In the midst of an economic recession and growing anxiety faced by the people, the stimulus proposal will surely rev up the IT sector, and also other industries too,'' says Harrison Barnes, the CEO of InformationTechnologyCrossing. ''Also, our tech job site has been continually updating its website with the latest IT jobs daily and has managed to post more than 122,037 active IT jobs in its database as of in the second week of January. The site aspires to support the slumping job market by adding more and more IT job openings.''
There has been a spate of layoffs recently in the IT sector. Nortel Networks Corp., one of the leading telecom networks, announced recently that it needed bankruptcy protection, as the company is saddled with mounting debt and dwindling cash flow. Storage developer Seagate Technologies also unexpectedly announced the immediate departures of both its CEO William Watkins and COO Dave Wickersham, effective immediately. Additionally, the company is laying off 800 employees, i.e. 10% of its workforce.
But some companies have been adding jobs too. Barracuda Networks, a leader in web security applications, plans to expand its research and development center in Ann Arbor, MI. The project is expected to create 351 new IT jobs, including 185 workers who will be directly employed by the company. IBM plans to open a global delivery center for application services on Michigan State University's campus. The move is expected to bring 100 jobs to East Lansing this year and create up to 1,500 direct and indirect jobs within the next five years.
''The economic stimulus package for IT is sure to boost up jobs in the information technology sector, but will surely take time. Industries such as banking, retail, real estate, and manufacturing have faced severe job cuts in this economic downturn. However, information technology has managed to remain somewhat stable. The only thing that IT job seekers need to know is that there are enough jobs today and that more jobs are sure to be added. They should also know where to look for the best IT jobs,'' says Barnes.
''In the meanwhile, InformationTechnologyCrossing aims to update its website with all of the most recent IT jobs. The website plans to add more IT jobs this month in its continuing effort to offer the highest number of active IT jobs possible to thousands of job seekers.
