Tech industry shows jobs growth with 30,000 hires in 2010, InformationTechnologyCrossing finds 39,000 jobs.

September 15, 2010

Pasadena, CA — The tech industry hired 30,200 people in the first six months of this year, increasing the tech workforce’s size by 0.5 percent.

The data comes from the industry group TechAmerica Foundation, which derived its conclusions by doing an analysis of the data gathered by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The total number of people employed in the tech industry in June 2010 stood at 5.78 million.

Another study by Dice.com shows that over half the tech companies plan to hire more people during the second half of the year. Professionals with a work experience of two to ten years will see the strongest demand for their skills.

The industry showed job growth in three of the four tech sectors according to TechAmerica Foundation. Employment in the tech manufacturing sector went up by 9,100 jobs, an increase of 0.7 percent. The software services sector added 14,200 jobs and 29,700 jobs were added to the tech services sector.

Asked about the employment situation in the tech industry, A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of InformationTechnologyCrossing, says ''There are jobs in every category in the tech industry. This is one of the few industries where skilled professionals have a good chance of getting work.'' InformationTechnologyCrossing is a job aggregator site that focuses on jobs in the information technology sector. The site has been able to find over 39,000 jobs for the sector.
