JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Systems Engineer – Cloud Platforms, leads the technical delivery of infrastructure projects, functioning as a full stack infrastructure expert. Partners with business, technology leaders, architects, and other engineers across other disciplines to engineer systems as well as the systems that deliver those systems (aka deliver infrastructure as code). This role will perform research, analysis, design, creation, and implementation of systems to meet current and future requirements. This role engineers these systems to ensure that Marriott's services have the necessary resiliency and uptime appropriate to user needs while being able to deliver a fast rate of change, functional and non-functional improvements. Provides solutions that serve our business leveraging current and leading-edge technologies in an innovative and impactful manner.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

Required

Undergraduate degree in an engineering or computer science discipline and/or equivalent experience/certification

7 years experience in information technology with technical skills:

3 years experience with cloud computing technology and its concepts (for example: AWS, Azure)

3 years experience in container operations and orchestration (for example: EKS, AKS)

3 years experience with DevOps tooling (for example: Jira, GitHub, Jenkins, Artifactory, DTR, etc.)

3 years experience with application and container Security (e.g. Vault, Aqua, SonarQube, Thycotic, Entrust) and Monitoring (e.g. Dynatrace, Splunk)

3 years experience in infrastructure and configuration management as code development (e.g. Terraform, Ansible)

3 years’ Infrastructure automation through scripting with technologies like Python, Ruby, PowerShell, and/or UNIX scripting languages

3 years’ experience in Security Compliance, Information Assurance and Data Protection using industry-best practices and tooling (e.g. Crowdstrike Falcon, Tenable.io, Splunk Phantom, HashiCorp Vault signers, SHA1 and SHA2 certificate management)

3 years of experience in Agile/DevOps methodologies

Ability to design end to end architecture that supports 99.99% service availability with performance and cost considerations

Experience operating in an agile scrum environment.

Delivery focused with experience to deliver incrementally at a fast pace in 2-week sprints

Additional Preferred Experiences

Familiarity with cloud native database technologies (Amazon RDS, Aurora, DocumentDB, Redis/Elasticache, Azure CosmosDB).

Familiarity with traditional RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server) and NoSQL (Couchbase) database technologies

Familiarity with Middleware products like DataPower, MQSeries, JBoss, Tomcat, Kafka

One or more cloud certifications.

ITIL V4 foundation certification.

Excellent technical knowledge of current & emerging infrastructure systems & standards.

Strong knowledge of the best available tools, software, applications, and systems for attaining best-in-class IT technology across the enterprise.

Project planning and management experience.

Excellent understanding of change management and testing requirements, techniques, and tools.

Ability to create constructive relationships, influence, and communicate (to project team, IT management, and non-technical staff).

Provides technical expertise, oversight, standardization, and validation of the effectiveness of the infrastructure servers.

Researches, designs, and engineers high-performing Infrastructure (as code) components that are standards-based, highly available and secured, delivering the required business functionality.

Leads analysis of current environment for deficiencies and provides solutions

Identifies opportunities to enhance the service delivery, operations and continual service improvement processes

Educates internal and external users of the technologies to continually improve the knowledge and skill-base of the organization on how best to operate and support the infrastructure services.

Provides documents with a focus on how services will be leveraged in the solution architecture.

Participates in the evaluation and selection of technology products.

Institutes best practices & ensures proper alignment to projects & major initiatives.

Leads analysis of the current environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommends solutions for improvement.

Leads analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine the potential impact on existing and planned architectures
