What’s the role?

Shell is looking for an IT Operations Senior SRE to join our team. In this role you will contribute to Secure, Reliable and Affordable Operations as well as delivery of value-add IT services within our rapidly growing Renewables & Energy Solutions (R&ES) landscape.

In this role as IT Operations Senior SRE you are embedded in DevOps teams with full stack developers, architect, product owner and data engineers to deliver through the product and software development lifecycle (from design to deploy) and be ready for production to ensure security, reliability, and compliance.

Accountabilities include:

• Build and scale the technology infrastructure to meet rapidly increasing demand.

• Collaborate with Development and QA to launch new features and services.

• Monitor and troubleshoot platform issues.

• Automate deployment, monitoring, management and incident response.

• Develop and improve operational practices and procedures.

• Build a resilient, secure and compliant, efficient cloud-based applications.

• Build and automate controls by embedding stages in pipelines to get them certified as complaint release pipelines.

• Manage cross-functional requirements working with various company stakeholders.

• Drive and champion the Site Reliability culture and reserve time to contribute back into the inner source tribes to enhance Shell’s SRE capabilities. Run demo Proof of Concepts for these capabilities.

• From an operations perspective, the SRE will be covering multiple products within the same product line and supporting the IT Operations team in meeting the operational excellence requirements and commitments.

• The SRE effort is usually split between DevOps teams support and IT Operations activities (together 50%). Other important activities include product feature enhancements (50%).

• Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve agility, reliability and velocity.

• Lead the development and automation of the CI/CD pipeline.

• Lead Engineers and motivate to maintaining their services by measuring and monitoring service level objectives and indicators.

• Be the driving force for correct incident response and blameless post-mortems within Product Development.

• Develop a framework for maintenance and review of dashboards, alerts, capacity planning and deployment readiness checklists.

• Explore the opportunities for auto heal to be implemented into our infrastructure and applications deployments.

What we need from you?

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Bachelor’s Degree is a must.

Minimum ten (10) years’ experience with software engineering, software development, or system operations.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Essential skills: Unix/Linux shell, can write shell scripts, and understands Linux internals.

AWS/Azure administration or system engineering certification and proven hands-on experience.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Terraform and container orchestration tools preferably Kubernetes.

Managing post-mortems to avoid structural issues resurfacing using blameless culture.

Production grade setup management incl high availability designs using nodes, pods and horizontal autoscaling within the cluster.

Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale production systems.

Knows Python, Java, Go, Rust, or similar.

Understands networking in the cloud and messaging, especially between services.

Has hands-on experience using source control (Git, GitHub, GitLab) and feature branching strategies.

Inquisitive and assertive mindset, being empowered to drive improvement initiatives in the tech stack independently

Impact the product development teams to deliver in secure, reliable and compliant manner.
