Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
Define, oversee and contribute to data & data quality standards, controls, procedures, and documentation. Serves as a team leader and as a team member, and works to maintain a positive work environment.
Areas of work tasking include:
Defining rules to evaluate data quality as well as assessment and measurement of accuracy, data integrity and development and documentation of the overall data quality assessment process.
Develop, document, promulgate, and maintain data quality goals and standards. This may also include overseeing the organization's data policies.
Identify areas for data quality improvement and help to resolve data quality problems through the appropriate choice of error detection and correction, process control and improvement, or
Process design strategies. This includes maintaining database dictionary repository, maintaining standards, and profiling data to discover anomalies.
Recommend enhancements to the data acquisition processes to improve accuracy of the data warehouse.
Work with customer business users and the software development team to identify, document and correct data quality issues.
Work with the software development team to ensure that data rules are being supported and properly maintained.
Monitor compliance of information flows and data stores against data quality standards.
Measure and report to management on the progress of data quality improvement. This may also include documenting the return on investment associated with improving data quality.
Provide data quality training and consulting services to others in the organization.
Provides team leadership to less experienced staff.
Required Qualifications:
Active Secret clearance
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar technical degree and seven to nine years of related experience.
Five to seven years of experience in
ETL
programming, data management, warehousing, and data mart development
Strong experience with
SQL/PLSQL
development
Experience in the use of IBM Information Analyzer, Discovery,
DataStage
, and
QualityStage
Solid understanding of data warehousing, dimensional, relational, and OLAP data modeling
Experienced in data modeling to describe business processes, activities, information flows, and use cases
Ability to manage the change process, to understand implications of data quality, to measure the cost and benefits of data quality and to detect and correct errors in databases
Attention to detail and maintaining high data quality standards
Effective at working on small teams and ability to think logically and independently with strong analytical, research and problem solving skills
Desired Qualifications:
A master's degree in Statistics or Information Systems is desired.
Experience using Microsoft SQL Server
Experience in Enterprise Information Management (i.e., MDM, Data Governance, etc.)
Experience with XML data and data exchange implementations (especially the NIEM standards)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience conducting research and preparing formal reports
Strong MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio background
