Daily duties / responsibilities:
Participate in a team comprised of DHEC and solution implementation staff for system related planning, designing, programming, and implementation of agency transactional systems to a segmented framework for the agency environment located at the State IT Data Center. Emphasis for the Database Administer candidate will be on the modernization of Oracle and IBM DB2 legacy systems to new hardware, assist with modifications to computer systems to ensure upgrade compatibility from older to newer platform Microsoft SQL environments, database system modifications to meet state and agency security standards, assist with database related evaluation and build specifications, and remediation of those computer systems to the State IT Data Center.
Specific database duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: Perform complex database functions, assistance, and technical advice including design architecture, configuration, writing, testing, and of agency database computer systems as assigned.
Modernization of legacy IBM DB2 environment and migration and configuration to new IBM Hardware housed at the State IT Data Center.
Modernization of legacy Oracle 11G environment and migration to new Oracle Hardware Appliance (OHA) housed at the State IT Data Center.
Modification of existing computer systems to be compliant with agency security requirements.
Assist with Microsoft Server SQL database/system migration and supporting scheduled tasks to State IT Data Center segmented environment, testing, validation, and user acceptance.
Ensure maximum system uptime for critical components to ensure business continuity.
Diagnoses, isolates and de-bugs technical problems and performs problem resolution.
Database monitoring and tuning.
Adheres to Information Technology application development standards and security requirements.
Prepare and maintain system documentation and architecture diagrams for applications assigned.
Work in a collaborative effort to conceptualize total systems and/or product solutions currently in place and remediation of those systems in a segmented framework.
Ability to plan, organize, review, implement associated project milestones to completion.
Recommend and assist in the design of system architectures to align with organizational strategic business objectives.
Requires mastery technical and business knowledge in multiple disciplines/processes.
Create supporting project and system documentation.
Provide updates to the Project Team.
Assist with development of policies and procedures to conform and comply with agency standard cyber security policy design related to information risk management, designation of data as to criticality, confidentiality, and protection. (NIST 800-53, FISMA, SC InfoSec Requirements ****etc.)
Database Administrator:
Required skills: Experience in designing and implementing enterprise level systems architectures.
Experience in relational databases.
Experience in IBM DB2
Experience in Oracle
Microsoft SQL Server (all versions)
Experience in database tuning and optimization practices.
Experience in AIX Operating System
Experience in Linux Operating System
Demonstrated knowledge/skills of the IT industry which includes: multi-tiered architectures, enterprise applications, evaluation of emerging technologies, networks, data management systems and hardware systems.
Experience with security and data classification related to CDC, HIPAA, and CJIS.
Ability to establish positive working relationships with technical staff, customers and others involved in data-centric management.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge of Information Technology Field, best practices, organization and operations
Ability to integrate technical systems with agency goals and objectives
Ability to assist with integration of Database monitoring tools.
Experience gained through numerous Full Life Cycle Data Architecture projects.
Required education: Bachelor's or Master's
