SUMMARY

Bering Straits Information Technology, LLC, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Information Security Specialist in Washington, DC. This position will provide technical and non-technical guidance and hands on support in several areas of information technology security and certification and compliance with Federal and DOS statutes. The InfoSec specialist will have Tier 2/3 system administration on multiple cybersecurity environments from Checkpoint Firewall Systems; Juniper Firewall Systems; SPLUNK; Windows; LINUX; McAfee ePO; Foundstone Security; Tanium; and Microsoft SharePoint.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position, and are

not

intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

Provide technical information security support and guidance in the areas of system architecture, system configuration, system assessment testing & validation and/or certification, product evaluations and recommendations, and support other technical areas as needed including MS Windows, UNIX and Network Architecture.

Provide non-technical information security support and guidance including policy compliance, documentation requirements compliance, planning and recommendations for system continuity of operations, system standard operating procedures;

Assist in change control processes for ST systems and provide liaison support between DS/ST and the Diplomatic Security’s Chief Technology Officer’s DS/CTO) Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO).

Provide technical solutions to automate processes or functions to improve systems security;

Support DoS innovation efforts from cybersecurity perspective to include: data consolidation efforts, enhanced mobile technologies, and establishment of cloud solutions as appropriate.

Ensure security controls, including but not limited to those defined in NIST 800-53, are appropriately applied to ST systems for the protection of privacy and to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information in support of the ST mission.

Support the FISMA, A123, and other IT security-related audits and security assessment team.

Assist with design and implementation of technical security technology and IT projects as directed;

Complete and maintain documentation such a system security plans, security risk assessment, continuous monitoring and other related activities.

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum) Qualifications

Must be able to obtain and maintain Top Secret level security clearance.

Knowledge of FISMA and NIST 800-53

Preferred

Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about. Occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical agility test (PAT) and annually thereafter as prescribed by the government.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required. During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities required

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
