Senior Patent Agent/Attorney - Biotechnology

Profile

We are actively seeking a senior patent attorney or patent agent with an advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., in a life-science field, such as biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or immunology, and at least 5 years of experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications. Expertise in bioinformatics, chemistry, or materials science is a plus, but is not required.
The candidate should be comfortable working autonomously and have good client management skills. The firm expects to provide an increasing amount of work to a new life sciences practitioner; therefore, a book of business, while preferred, is not required. Firm life sciences clients include institutional clients that provide a wide variety of work, as well as companies, ranging from start-ups to large companies, working in the areas of nucleic acid sequencing and analysis, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals and treatment methods, drug delivery, and engineering of organisms to produce compounds of interest. The firm offers a great platform for the self-starter to develop their practice, as well as a collegial group of patent practitioners who value excellence to learn from and with. Remote, in-office, or hybrid work arrangements are supported.

Experienced Patent Agent/Attorney – Chemistry/Materials Sciences
Qualification Requirements:
• Eligible to be admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in chemistry, biology, or other relevant life sciences field; or pertinent industry experience
• At least 3 years of patent attorney or agent experience
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Interest in patent prosecution
• Ability to work with colleagues in various time zones in the U.S.
Preferred Requirements:
• Admission to practice before the USPTO
• Ph.D. in chemistry, biology, or other relevant life sciences field
• Prior patent prosecution experience in a law firm setting
• Keen understanding of fundamental scientific principles and interdisciplinary technologies.

Patent Attorney (North Carolina) – Computer Science/Electrical Engineering
We are expanding our presence in the Triangle and seek North Carolina-based lateral patent agents and patent attorneys with at least two 2 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution. Applicants should have a background in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering. We are particularly interested in practitioners with a knowledge of software, cloud computing environments and enterprise database systems including customer relationship management platforms.
